We are so excited to share that our venue, Murrumbateman Chocolate Co, which is the proud home of Sweet Pea & Poppy has been recognised at the Canberra Region Tourism Awards, winning the Excellence in Food Tourism category.

This acknowledgement means the world to us. It celebrates not only our commitment to artisan chocolate and immersive visitor experiences, but also the extraordinary region we call home.

Most excitingly, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our region, with Murrumbateman business, Shaw Estate, Winning the Best New Business while Murrumbateman Field Days won Festivals and Events.

We genuinely love experiencing both Shaw Estate and the Murrumbateman Field Days and wholeheartedly recommend to visitors exploring our patch of regional NS, an easy 30 minute drive from the Canberra CBD.

Shaw has always been known for its award-winning wines and beautiful vineyard views, but its new restaurant has brought an elevated dining experience to the region — without losing the warm country hospitality Murrumbateman is known for.

Our Recent Visit

We had been wanting to visit for quite some time, and it absolutely lived up to expectations.

What we enjoyed:

  • Zucchini flowers with pumpkin cream — crisp, delicate, and full of flavour

  • Linguine, perfectly cooked and beautifully balanced

  • Chicken Milanese, golden and delicious

  • A cabbage side with celery, walnut and date, so good we’re still thinking about it!

  • And of course, burnt basque cheesecake with berry compote to finish

Paired with a bottle of Shaw Shiraz, it made for a delicious and a lovely, local night out. It’s hard to go past a Murrumbateman Shiraz: the wine style that has helped define our region a premium cool-climate wine destination.

Food lovers will also appreciate the buzz and energy of the huge open kitchen, which is organised, bustling, and a joy to watch.
